Release a business support package now

Shadow Treasurer David Janetzki

The LNP is demanding the Queensland Government release a business support package now, as other states put Queensland to shame.

The New South Wales Premier announced a $1 billion package to help his state’s small businesses, while the Queensland Premier remains silent and unprepared.

Shadow Treasurer David Janetzki says for the best part of two years, this government has missed the mark.

“The Queensland Treasurer continues to fail to deliver for small and family businesses,” Mr Janetzki said.

“In New South Wales, if an eligible business has a 40% drop in turnover, their government will cover 20% of the payroll.

“In Victoria, businesses are being offered commercial rent relief and South Australian businesses are provided hardship grants.

“What is the Queensland Government doing? Why won’t the Premier help?

“Many Queensland businesses are experiencing a significant drop in turnover due to no fault of their own. Where is their support?

“This State Government is not focused on what Queenslanders need them to be focused on.”

Shadow Minister for Small and Family Business Brent Mickelberg says Queensland businesses are being abandoned in their hour of need.

“Why isn’t the Premier helping struggling businesses? Why isn’t she helping them?” Mr Mickelberg said.

“Businesses are closing their doors and staff are losing their jobs, unable to pay rent or put food on the table.

“Small and family businesses owners and their employees have done the right thing during this pandemic, and they continue to be punished.

“If there was ever a time for the State Government to step up, it’s now.”
