The State Government must step up and immediately support businesses and their staff via a voucher scheme to give Queenslanders confidence to back their local economies.
Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli was today joined by Shadow Minister for Small and Family Business Brent Mickelberg as they called on the State Government to act before more businesses close and Queenslanders lose their jobs.
Mr Crisafulli said the government was consumed by its own integrity issues and was failing to govern for Queeenslanders.
“When a government is consumed by itself, they’re not governing for the people of this state,” he said.
“We’re listening to small and family businesses and they’re telling us they’re on their knees and they’re in desperate need of a helping hand.
“A voucher system would give Queenslanders the confidence they need that it’s safe for them to go out again and support their local small and family businesses and the people they employ.
“We can’t risk losing any more of these businesses which are the engine room of the state’s economy.”
Mr Mickelberg said the government should immediately roll out a voucher scheme while they work on a genuine support package.
“The message to the Premier is clear, step up to the mark, provide the support for Queensland small and family businesses and those they employ now,” he said.
“Vouchers will get people out spending money to support their local favourite. It’s a simple measure the government could easily implement today.
“The silence is unacceptable and it’s time for action, not hollow words from the State Government.
“We again put forward our positive plan for a voucher system which will immediately help cash flow in the sectors hardest hit.”
