Queensland students deserve better

Shadow Minister for Education Dr Christian Rowan

The plan to air condition every Queensland school was an LNP policy announced in 2018.

This policy was first criticised and then later adopted by this Labor State Government.

I welcome the fact that Queensland kids are now being taught in air conditioned classrooms.

Queensland students deserve nothing less.

But there remains serious issues with the State Government’s management of the program, after schools were told they couldn’t use their air conditioners during heatwaves, and instances where electrical upgrades had not been done.

This was due to the government’s poor management of the energy network.

During the rollout, there were multiple incidents of potential exposure to asbestos in classrooms because of the government’s failure to adequately plan.

The government must guarantee that asbestos management in Queensland schools complies with all relevant and contemporary workplace health and safety standards.
