Palaszczuk’s Headline Housing Hoax

Shadow Housing Minister Tim Mander MP

The Palaszczuk Labor Government’s housing fund headline is grossly misleading, pedals false hope for people sleeping in cars and is another example of the Premier caring more about her 30 media spinners than Queenslanders in need.

The fund was established nearly two years ago and in that time the government hasn’t unveiled a single home it has built.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government have not invested 2 billion dollars in housing.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government is pocketing money from the dodgy re-valuation and investment of the Queensland Titles Office.

After nearly two years, the public has no idea how much money from this fund has been used to build a single home because the Palaszczuk Labor Government hasn’t released that information.

After nearly two years, how many homes have been built by the fund?

After nearly two years, why is the Palaszczuk Labor Government only asking for more ideas now?

After nearly two years, accounting trickery and media releases haven’t put a roof over the head of a Queenslander.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government’s record on housing is the worst in the country:

  • For two years running, Queensland has spent less on social housing, per person, than any other state or territory in the country.
  • The Palaszczuk Government’s annual investment in social housing has fallen by over $40m as compared to its expenditure in 2018/19.
  • The Palaszczuk Government’s investment in capital expenditure to build new social homes has plummeted by $100m.
  • In 2017, the Palaszczuk Government promised to build 2,972 social housing dwellings over five years. According to the Auditor-General’s report last year, more than 1 in 5 of the homes they promised were not built.
  • The Auditor-General uncovered that the Palaszczuk Government had never forecasted or planned where or how much social housing was required to meet demand.
  • The Palaszczuk Government promised a QBuild Rapid Accommodation and Apprenticeship Centre at Eagle Farm, having the capacity to produce one prefabricated home per week, and 80 this financial year. Has the facility even opened yet?
  • The Palaszczuk Government promised to convert Griffith University student accommodation into social housing in six months. That has blown out to potentially a year.

The Palaszczuk Labor Government has questions to answer today because Queenslanders deserve better.
