State Government Inaction Ensures North’s Insurance Pain

Tuesday, 19th January 2021

Kimi’s here but the state government is nowhere to be seen when it comes to bringing down insurance premiums for North Queenslanders

It’s been two weeks since the ACCC report into soaring insurance premiums in Northern Australia and still the Palaszczuk Government remains silent.

LNP Leader David Crisafulli says North Queenslanders are paying the price for trying to make a living and raise a family in regional parts of the state.

“Now is the time to highlight the shocking discrepancies for locals. Current premiums are unaffordable. They’re unfair and North Queenslanders are paying for it,” Mr Crisafulli said.

“The ACCC report found home, contents and strata insurance are considerably higher in the north, compared to the rest of the country.

“Half a decade after promising a parliamentary inquiry that never happened insurance premiums have fallen off the state government’s radar.

“To reduce costs, save small businesses and create more local jobs the government must investigate all options, including mitigation measures like flood levees.”
